So you’ve given it a great deal of thought and decided to live in your RV full-time. (Are you sure about this? I mean, do you really, REALLY like your spouse?) Ok, you still say you want to do it so… The next step is to put just as much thought into which RV is going to serve your specific needs and interests year-round. To take a little of the burden off of you, here’s our full time travel trailer reviews round-up of some of the highest rated RVs for full-time living. Also, where some of these luxuries areas lack (like LED bulbs), you can find great products on Amazon usually at better prices.
While the name is kind of funny, it makes sense because Lance only makes one model. There are plenty of floor plans however, and if you’re not looking to break the bank, one of them may be what you’re looking for.
These awesome trailers may only come with one name, but you can choose from a variety of 10 floor plans. If you really don’t need a lot of room, you can go as small as 19 feet. There is no dinette in this size, but that just means you can get an “inexpensive” trailer that instead uses the room for bigger, more comfortable chairs and a decent-sized dry bath.; if you need more space to keep back and relax (and eat), Lance has sizes up to 29 feet.
What about the essentials? Well, all models come with a furnace, A/C and double door fridge. Also included is a fresh water tank that’s enclosed, insulated, and heated; laminated and insulated floor and ceiling; and Lite-Ply building material, which is a strong, light wood that makes each unit long-lasting and resilient.
One of the most interesting parts about Lance Lance trailers is the Azdel interior panel walls and block-foam insulation. Azdel materials offer superior moisture protection, a lighter alternative to wood, and soundproofing. This is especially great for when you first start the RV lifestyle and have those… cough cough…. disagreements. 😉
So now how about the price??? Lance Lance trailers start at 40K and run upwards to $60K+ depending on your options. Options? Yes! They offer features like dual-pane windows, a pillow top innerspring mattress, LED mood or reading lights, and Lance’s exclusive Skyview window. Other optional features are a 13.5/15K BTU air conditioner, electric awning with adjustable rain dump, outside grill prep, and more.
As you can see, there are a lot of great things to love about this trailer! The smaller size means the price point is lower, and you’ll still have the essentials you need for year-round living. The smaller size also means you can pull these trailers with a mid-size SUV – it will tow behind any vehicle with a 3,700 GVWR or more.
The only negative thing I can say about this is that there are cheaper options for this trailer size on the market. However, make sure you compare these negatives to the options in other brands you are looking at. They may turn out to be all not that negative after all.
This is pretty “no duh,” but the Arctic Fox is built to withstand extreme climates. All North Fork floor plans are considered to be “All Conditions Units.” The dump valves and holding tanks are fully insulated to prevent freezing, and the insulated holding tanks circulate warm air around the suspended tanks to promote safety during cold weather. If you’re going somewhere very hot or very cold (but why would you go somewhere very cold?!), you’ll be grateful for the Radiant Barrier Reflective insulation. It reflects the sun’s heat, so your insulation and camper will be cooler when it’s hot, and warmth will be trapped for when it’s cold.
If you’re not some sort of extreme weather freak, you probably care more about the sizes and prices. The Arctic Fox North Fork ranges from 23 to 30 feet and is available in six floor plans. And the prices are low in comparison to other brands; they typically go from $__ to $__.
Of course you also care about features, and these models have lots of them. It’s got solid surface kitchen countertops, a 10 cu. ft. refrigerator with multiple panels, USB charging ports on both sides of the bed, LED lighting, a Jackknife sofa, and cathedral arched ceilings. And there are some cool things you don’t necessarily expect to be standard like tinted windows, kitchen and master skylights, a garden tub and shower combo, and my favorite, an outdoor shower. Dirty kids and dogs, beware!
If you don’t want to experience the great outdoors ALL the time, there are entertainment features like a 12V 19″ LED TV, an AM/FM/CD/DVD player with Bluetooth, and outdoor speakers. But don’t use the speakers to blast Metallica. Take my word for it, people won’t like you.
This is a decent-sized and priced unit with lots going for it. As an added bonus, you get the Absolute Northwood promise, which includes quality insulation, as well as a vacuum bonded roof, bonded roof deck, insulated residential flooring and hardwood cabinets.
There is one thing I should mention; if you look at reviews, many owners seem to think the workmanship and materials are less than top-notch quality. But then there are several other people who say otherwise. Look into this before buying.
Fifth Wheel Full Time Travel Trailer Reviews
Next in our lineup comes the fifth wheels designs. Starting out is the Forest River RiverStone fifth wheel line consists of spacious floorplans (41 to 43 feet) that feature plenty of creature comforts and then some! We’re talking 30″ stainless steel convection microwaves, 10″ thick memory foam mattresses, and 60” LED Smart TVs, people!
The interiors of all seven floor plans are roomy as can be and include several slide outs. The wide-open kitchen has an instant heat cook top, updated Corian solid surface countertop, large stainless steel sinks with a residential faucet, and a huge 18 cu. Ft. French door refrigerator with ice maker. If you like to cook (or even just eat), this is your kitchen! There is also a huge bath, with some models including a bath and a half. That feature right there has saved many a marriage?
For anyone who needs to live in the lap of luxury, you’re all set here. Optional features include an electric fireplace, an island double-sink, a dishwasher, an ultimate electronics package with 4-camera observation system, and even a stackable washer and dryer. Oh, and that TV, which includes a premium Sound Bar and DVD player/stereo.
And you’ll definitely stay warm (or cool) in your RiverStone, as Fox River prides itself on its wool-glass, residential-style insulation, featuring a dual vapor barrier. This insulation, designed specifically for the extended-stay lifestyle, is also included in the slide rooms.
If you have money to burn (these units run right around $100K), these fifth wheels are awesome! These features will have you feeling like royalty.
But let’s face it; most of us are looking for something more reasonably priced, so the RiverStone is definitely not for everyone. Also, there are some reported issues with Forest River’s post-sale service and quality control. As always, do your research.
If you’re super picky … well, let me rephrase that: If you’re discerning, the Keystone RV Alpine is a good choice for you. This model comes in an incredible 18 floor plans! And every one of them has modern amenities, contemporary styling and high ceilings. Like, really high. And the slide boxes are nearly 7 feet tall, so if happen to be a large, discerning person, you just can’t go wrong.
Whichever floor plan you choose, it comes with upgraded amenities that will have you feeling more at home than you thought possible. The Bedroom Retreat Collection includes a king pillow top mattress, walk-in closet, extra cedar-lined drawers, a sitting area, prep for stackable washer and dryer (all floor plans), and upgraded flush overhead lighting. It’ll be tempting to not get out of bed but you’re gonna wanna drag yourself out, even if it’s only to go into the kitchen, which is itself something to behold. The upgraded kitchen appliance package includes Corian countertops, a name-brand, residential-size convection oven/microwave, a stainless steel range, an undermounted 12″ stainless steel sink, and a four-door, oversized refrigerator.
If you’re a driveability geek, you’ll appreciate the AXTURN fiberglass front cap and rear, which provide a 30% better turning radius, as well as the Alpine’s aerodynamic design, which will have you rolling down the highway with 18% better draft efficiency.
Bummers about this model? It’s pretty pricy, ranging from $77-90K. AND, as you’ll probably read when you research it, Keystone does get some reviews saying the warranties are not the best.
If you’re a REAL driveability geek, the Jayco North Point was designed with you in mind. Each unit includes the new (2018) 5 Star Handling Package, a Jayco exclusive designed to deliver the ultimate experience. The combination of high-end components including Goodyear Endurance tires, Dexter axles with Nev-R-Adjust brakes, the MORryde rubberized suspension system, and E-Z Lube hubs make pulling the North Point a breeze. (Personally, that sentence bored me to tears, but I know some of you get it.)
North Point’s “Climate Shield,” is designed to, well, “shield” you. It includes an enclosed, insulated, and heated underbelly, a high-BTU furnace, and Astrofoil in the roof and floors.
You will appreciate the special touches Jayco includes in the kitchen, like the Furrion Executive Chef gas cooktop, a stainless steel residential microwave, and large pantry that will easily hold all of your canned goods. The kitchen also includes a hutch that will provide storage for your dishes and extra counter space, soft-close drawers and a whole-coach water purification system.
Unwinding will be easy in the living area while you take advantage of the cozy fireplace and big-screen LED HDTV. And the room includes seating for eight, so plan on watching the game at your place!* When you’re ready for bed, you’ll have the Simmons residential foam-top mattress waiting for you.
Floor plans (there are eight) range from 38 to 42 feet, and have an MSRP of $82-94K.
Again, the price is quite high. Although let’s face it, you’re purchasing a HOME if you’re a full-time RV dweller, so you gotta consider that. But Jayco also has some complaints about the warranty and craftsmanship, particular about the air conditioning.
*PRO TIP – Always – ALWAYS – ask your wife before inviting everyone over for the big game!
OMG, if it’s space you crave, you’re not gonna do much better than this. To wrap up our full time travel trailer reviews, the Solitude is billed as the most spacious fifth-wheel ever built. Its width size is 101 inches, a full five inches wider than the typical fifth wheel, which has 96. Five inches may not seem like a lot, but when you’re living in your RV, it really does make a difference. Most fifth-wheels with a rear lounge aren’t wide enough to offer both a wide sofa AND end tables, but in the Solitude, you’ll enjoy both. And Space for your stuff won’t be an issue – you’ll find extra storage throughout, including in the large pantry, entry closet, and even under the inside steps.
Whichever of the 14 floor plans you choose (ranging from 34 to 41 feet), you’ll have the good fortune of cooking with a professional grade stainless steel cooktop, built-in oven, and convection microwave. The kitchen island gives you a massive amount of counter space, and there is even a location for pullout trash cans to keep everything tidy.
The living area features a big screen LED TV, a fireplace, and power reclining theater seating, complete with heat and massage functions. The master bedroom includes a king size bed, and really, isn’t that what all of us really want in a bedroom? I mean, you can go out and get yourself another dog or two! As if all of these features weren’t enough, you can also choose to add conveniences like a dishwasher, washer and dryer, and even an exterior pullout kitchen.
The bottom line is that the Solitude is huge; you might even forget that you’re not living in a house. Especially after a beer or 12. And priced from $75 to $101K, it’s priced similarly to other models in this article that are smaller.
BUT … keep in mind that bigger isn’t always better. Some people say the Solitude is overrated, and I know I sound like a broken record, but there are also many complaints about the warranty.
These are just a few of the many full time travel trailer reviews. There are many other brands that can be reviewed. However, you should now have a better idea of the different types, sizes and prices for these great vehicles and what you might want to look for in your next RV. Just make sure you shop around and also look at products on Amazon to replace the inflated pricing which an RV might mark up for their upgrades.
